Why Catechism Matters
Dear New City Family,
As you may remember from the announcement this past Sunday, we are launching a catechism program this year!
The core question we should be asking is, “why does this matter?” In Ephesians 4, we find the answer. Paul says that one of the goals of the church should be cultivating the maturity of believers into Christ and in order to do so, we need to use our well-equipped teachers to share their deep knowledge of the Word of God to those growing in their faith.
To learn more about the curriculum we will be using (the New City Catechism), it may be useful to watch this short video, featuring Tim Keller:
(Note that the curriculum does not derive its name from our church; it is rather developed by The Gospel Coalition 🙂)
This catechism class will help people of all ages stay rooted in the gospel. Through the memorization of short answers to big questions, they will be ready to defend their faith, cast out anxiety and doubt, and grow into the likeness of Christ, all while doing it alongside other Christians in a classroom setting.
Again, to reiterate some of the important details: Our first session will be February 22, 2026; we will host lessons from 12:00-12:30 p.m. after every church service, with the exception of one Sunday a month. A more detailed schedule will be released to those who register.
So, we ask that if you have children in grades 4-12, that you register by clicking the button below.
We plan to divide these children and youth into three separate classrooms so that children will be learning with peers close to their age.
If you are an adult seeking to know more about Christianity from a confessional or doctrinal standpoint, please fill out the registration form for adults.
As a final note, parents will have to pay a small registration fee, as we have to order NCC booklets for each student. However, this will be required later.
Please have this filled out before February 11. Thank you so much for your time and willingness to join us in making disciples of the next generation.
In Christ’s love,
Ian DeJong, Pastoral Intern
