Fall 2026 Preview!
It’s hard to believe that it is already August! The fall season will be upon us before we know it, so we thought this would be a good time for us to provide a preview of what is coming at New City!
First, an early welcome back to students!
We are excited to welcome our college and university students back!
If you are not a student, please take the time to shower our students with warmth, interest, and hospitality! Introduce yourself to them, invite them into your homes, offer to buy them a coffee (or tea, or boba, or kombucha, etc.), and find other ways to care for and serve them in creative ways! Let’s practice who we are—a community of the Spirit in the bond of peace (Eph 4:3).
If you are a student, we are so glad to have you worshiping with us! Please take advantage of our amazing community of warm and kind people who are eager to extend generosity to you. Please step beyond your peer groups and introduce yourself to someone you don’t know! Get involved by joining our young adults ministry, by serving in the children’s ministry, the music ministry, the greeting team, the youth ministry, our ESL ministry, or one of the many ways you can pour yourself out in service.
We can’t wait to connect meaningfully with you, however long you are with us!
Second, intermission groups start!
“Intermission groups” is our biggest and broadest discipleship path (click HERE to read about our discipleship model). We call it “intermission groups” because we are calling people to break from the normal rhythms of life to rest, fuel up, learn together, and encourage one another while they are on mission for God. To that end, we call people from every stage of their spiritual journeys to join together in people’s homes to grow in Christian discipleship.
This fall, we have the wonderful opportunity to go through a study about gospel generosity (E8), using a resource that was developed by Tim Keller and the team at Redeemer Presbyterian Church. It’s called “Generosity: Responding to God's Radical Grace in Community,” and it walks through seven passages from the book of Luke. We are excited to learn how the gospel of grace radically transforms hearts to form a generous, hospitable, community of people who steward their resources well.
Signups will begin September 13th, and groups will start meeting the week of Oct 5th. We recommend you sign up early, as groups fill up fast!
Additionally, we are going to be offering a 12-week study called “Life with Jesus” on Sunday afternoons. This is for anyonewanting an introduction to Christian discipleship and is broken up into four parts: 1. A new life, 2. A changed perspective, 3. A real connection, and 4. A compelling lifestyle.
Both rookie Christians and veteran Christians wanting to get back to the basics of following Jesus will benefit greatly from this course. Signups will begin late August!
Third, back to full programs for New City Kids!
Given the unpredictability of the summer schedule, we first reduced the number of classes, then took a break from regular children’s programming in August. Our plan, however, is to reopen all the classes in September!
To make this possible, however, we need your help! We need people serving as Sunday School teachers, classroom assistants, and nursery workers to provide robust care and discipleship for our children. We recognize and celebrate God’s good design in calling parents and primary guardians to serve as caregivers and disciplers of their children. But our Lord Jesus welcomed little children and told all his disciples—not just parents—to “let the little children come to me” (Mk 10:13-14).
That is why we believe it is God’s intent for the whole church to be involved in the discipleship of our little ones in support of primary guardians. Church, let’s keep our solemn vows to help in the Christian nurture of our children!

Fourth and finally, Exodus!
As I mentioned recently, we are starting a new sermon series in the book of Exodus in September!
Why, you ask, are we doing a series in Exodus? Here are two good reasons.
First, Exodus shows us who God is.
The God of Israel, we learn in Exodus, is a Holy God, a redeeming God, a just God, a compassionate God, and a promise-keeping God. And He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. A study of Exodus encourages us to trust in His unchanging character.The exodus is the key historical framework for understanding God’s plan of redemption.
In the exodus, we see how God saves people, how he has always saved people. And it foreshadows the greater exodus of the cross of Christ. Bobby Jamieson writes, “God’s entire plan of salvation,” and indeed, “the whole of Scripture is exodus-shaped.” It is no exaggeration to say that if we want to understand the work of Christ fully, we need to understand the exodus.
Well, there you have it, a preview of the fall season at New City.
Please pray with us for the Spirit of Christ to revive us, our neighbourhood, and our city, as we strive to faithfully announce the gospel of Jesus Christ in the heart of the city. Pray for lost people to be saved, for the saved to bear fruit, for people on the margins to come into the core, and for a compelling gospel community, through which the name of Christ will be lifted high, to the glory of God the Father!
